Playa Supplies, Gear and Clothes
Radical self-reliance and decommodification mean we need to obtain all of the things we'll need for the Playa before we get there. This section has some of my favorite picks for all the things you need.
Full disclosure: this is all stuff that I personally endorse and would no matter what, but these are affiliate links; when you buy something through these links, I get a few pennies to help cover the costs of running this site.

When I first started going to Burning Man, in 2005, I put zero effort into fashion. As long as my clothes was durable and comfortable, I was happy. In 2012, when I started a theme camp, though, I needed to dress in a way that fit the camp theme and that opened my mind to the joy of Radical Self-Expression.
I'm not a fan of the typical festival clothes or off-the-rack outfits. I'm also not a fan of wearing much clothes, but at the same time am quite skeptical of shirt-cocking or going nude (protect your delicate bits!) Instead, I usually bring some mix of homemade clothes, store-bought clothes that I've altered or, most often, individual pieces of clothing put together into just the right configuration. I love all of these sources enough that I started wearing their clothes off-Playa or gifting it to others.

I've learned that I don't want to waste time at Burning Man doing the same things I can do in the default world. That means I don't wait in line for food and do very little food preparation, instead living primarily off dry goods and foods that keep well in the cooler and can be eaten without fuss. I do usually bring some food for making quesadillas now and again, along with some fresh fruit. When food planning, I focus on foods that are rich in protein, (to prevent muscle-wasting and the associated feelings of weakness) and fiber (staying regular means fewer trips to Black Rock City port-a-potty hell at 4 p.m. or chancing a 4 a.m. mishap in the vile, toilet-paperless Playa portas.
